North Brookfield School Committee kept Good Friday off and backed a $16,000 history grant. The committee voted unanimously to preserve Good Friday, April 2, as a non-school day in the 2026-27 calendar, rejecting an option that would have ended the school year a day earlier. Superintendent McCormick told the board the district's state rural-school aid fell to about $90,000 this year from about $120,000 the year before, even as advocates statewide seek $60 million against the $11 million districts actually received.
The board also approved a three-year, $16,000 grant to train teachers in an "investigating history" curriculum and signed off on the sixth grade's overnight Nature's Classroom trip. Winter MAP testing showed districtwide reading achievement at the 54th percentile and fifth-grade math scores in the top bands at 66 percent, with McCormick calling the results "very promising."
