School Committee · Meeting of February 26, 2026

North Brookfield School Committee sent a $6,895,440.04 fiscal 2027 budget request to the town. Superintendent Timothy James McCormick said the figure reflects a net $387,000 reduction after the district found $135,000 in new student support costs offset by nearly $475,000 in placement savings, cutting the direct-cost budget by just over 5.3 percent from this year's $7.28 million. McCormick told the committee the town's minimum required contribution under net school spending sits at just over $4.01 million through Chapter 70.

He also flagged a statewide drop in rural school aid, from roughly $15 million to $11 million, calling it a concern for the 63 eligible districts including North Brookfield. The vote to send the budget to the town, and a separate vote approving corrected January minutes, both passed unanimously.
