North Brookfield School Committee Votes to Hire Full-Time Spanish Teacher for Junior-Senior High School

NORTH BROOKFIELD -- June 15, 2026, North Brookfield School Committee authorizes Spanish teacher hire, citing student demand for world language. The committee voted unanimously Monday to direct Superintendent Timothy McCormick to recruit a full-time Spanish teacher for the junior-senior high school, to be funded from school choice reserve funds without altering the district's voted budget; McCormick estimated the position at $65,000 to $70,000 annually plus benefits, with revolving account balances projected to exceed $500,000 in carry-over funds. The vote followed a two-part superintendent's report that showed strong elementary MAP test results, fourth-grade math reaching the 81st national percentile, alongside concerning middle school figures, including eighth-grade reading near the 28th percentile, which McCormick tied to first-year implementation of theInto Literature curriculum and student disengagement during testing. McCormick also presented a Reimagining North Brookfield strategic vision, drawn from six staff listening sessions and two student working sessions, in which "more choices" was described as "the single most repeated statement" across all stakeholder groups. The committee separately read into the record an inquiry from Quaboag Regional School District Superintendent Duff about potential inter-district collaboration, and voted to enter executive session to discuss strategy for the superintendent's contract extension.
