NORTH BROOKFIELD — The North Brookfield School Committee heard a five-year financial forecast projecting roughly a 2 percent annual town funding increase and revisited possible cooperation with Quaboag Regional School District. Consultants Mark and Matt Abrahams told the committee foundation enrollment has fallen about 30 percent while school choice tuition payments have exceeded receipts by $7.4 million cumulatively; fiscal 2027 Chapter 70 aid is projected at $5,136,725 under minimum-aid status. Vice Chair Nancy Waldron reported that a meeting with Quaboag's superintendent and school committee chair touched on a possible tuition agreement and regionalization, saying "we talked about the tuition agreement mostly, and then we did touch on the regionalization." Several members pushed back on reopening tuition talks so soon after a November 2024 vote rejected a similar deal.
Superintendent Timothy McCormick said the district would keep building internal programs, including a new health-services pathway, rather than return to the town for added funds. The committee took no vote on Quaboag and set Sept. 8 interviews to fill an open seat.
