North Brookfield School Committee Forms Panel to Weigh Tuition-Out Options

NORTH BROOKFIELD — November 18, 2025 — North Brookfield School Committee hears competing pitches from two regional districts and votes to form a financial subcommittee. At a special meeting Tuesday, the committee received presentations from Quabin Regional Superintendent Colleen Muha, whose district currently enrolls 59 North Brookfield school-choice students, and Quaboag Regional Superintendent Steve Duff, who reported 72 North Brookfield students are already enrolled at Quaboag. Duff highlighted career programs including a CNA track where all 14 last year's completers are now working as certified nursing assistants at $20 to $25 per hour, and noted Quaboag ranked 10th in Worcester County in US News standings. Both superintendents described tuition agreements as faster and more flexible than full regionalization, requiring only school committee — not town — approval. The committee voted unanimously to appoint members Matt and Maggie to a financial subcommittee to compile actual tuition rates, special education cost allocations, and building operating costs before any further action, and explicitly ruled out a January decision timeline.
