Board of Selectmen · Meeting of May 19, 2026
North Brookfield Board of Selectmen dissolved two committees and accepted seven resignations after honoring late Fire Chief James Black. The board opened with a moment of silence for Black, who died May 7 after 50 years with the fire department; member Peter Orsi, who also chaired the Fire Highway Building Committee, called his career "unheard of." The board dissolved that committee and the Downtown Development Committee, accepted resignations including William O'Toole, Ann Adams and Thomas Bissett, and approved a $75,017.86 BSC Group contract for the Madbrook Road bridge project. Board Chair Jason said he was "not happy at all" after only two residents received Code Red alerts during a state-ordered paving emergency on North Main Street.
The board also signed a $3,000 grant for a Council on Aging refrigerator and approved $20,156 in Chapter 90 funds for sidewalk-project oversight.
