Board Outlines Spring Paving, Sidewalk Grants
North Brookfield's Board of Selectmen detailed a wave of road and sidewalk grants set to remake Main Street this year.
Board of Selectmen · Meeting of April 7, 2026
North Brookfield's Board of Selectmen detailed a wave of road and sidewalk grants set to remake Main Street this year. Milling on Route 67 from the New Braintree line to Spring Street starts late this month under the Mass Municipal Paving Program; a nearly $1 million STRAP grant for sidewalks, secured by Town Clerk Tara Hayes, may dodge its $160,000-to-$170,000 required match if the paving program absorbs part of the scope. The $500,000 Complete Streets grant for North Main Street remains stuck after a contractor raised its sidewalk price $30,000.
The board also voted unanimously to hire Zachary Ramaska as a water operator, approved Town Collector Kim Bent's vacation carryover, "I did not believe I will be able to use it before June 30th," and opened debate on moving the fire department to a "weak chief" model.
