North Brookfield's Board of Selectmen authorized a $950,000 federal grant application and officially named the town park after a committee's request. Planner Shannon Sullivan of the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission said the CDBG funds would cover design and likely construction on South Common Street and Saint Claire Avenue, due April 21. The board voted to designate 188 North Main Street as the North Brookfield Memorial Park after John Tripp read the committee's letter and history.
Members also accepted Thomas A. Bissett's resignation after 19 years with the fire department, hired Justin Stearns and Pamela Ducas, and raised water department fees to $70 for backflow inspections. A presentation on Chapter 90 funding warned that at roughly $520,000 a year, repaving all 84 miles of town roads would take about 40 years.
The board also voted to ask U.S. Sen. Ed Markey to support a renewed EPA grant application for wastewater clarifier repairs.
