Board of Selectmen · Meeting of June 16, 2026

North Brookfield Board of Selectmen licenses 10 gravel pits over grandfather-clause pushback. The board unanimously approved new operating licenses for pit owners Richard Boulay, Laurie Drasek, Evan Birkin, William Farmer, David and Kim Birkin, Karen Huback, CNS Sand and Gravel, Eric Charpentier, Amy Vindel and Fred Smith under a 2023 town-meeting bylaw enforced for the first time this year. Resident John Kaminski objected, calling it a "99.1 percent rule" that punishes compliant operators for one bad actor, while a board member countered the license only confirms a pit is "running your business properly." The board also signed a three-year, $38,239.44-a-year town office lease, tabled two fiscal 2027 fuel contracts to June 30, and fielded a resident's complaint that Mount Pleasant Street repairs, tied to a federally funded project idle since fiscal 2021, still have no completion date.
