Town Meeting · Meeting of June 12, 2026

North Brookfield clears a $3,555 prior-year school lunch bill in a four-minute special town meeting. Town Moderator Sheila Orsi presided over the Friday, June 12 session, which handled a single warrant article transferring $3,555.28 from free cash to cover a prior fiscal year's school lunch program interest obligation. Board of Selectmen Chair Jamie Gilman, members Ralph Kaye and Peter Orsi, Board of Selectmen Administrator Mary Beth Polarski and Town Clerk Tara Hayes attended.

Orsi initially declared the article passed by a simple majority, then caught that a prior-year bill payment requires a nine-tenths vote and had the floor revote; the second count was unanimous. "That's a nine-tenths vote that passes," Orsi said. The special session dissolved immediately afterward, clearing the way for the Annual Town Meeting the same evening.
