Board votes to close Mad Brook Road Bridge immediately

NORTH BROOKFIELD — Board of Selectmen closes Mad Brook Road Bridge on MassDOT safety recommendation. Chair Jamie Gilman, Vice Chair Ralph Kay, and member Jason Petraitis voted unanimously at the April 21 meeting to close the bridge immediately after MassDOT warned that deteriorating steel supports create a safety hazard, with construction expected to begin in summer 2026. The board concurrently voted to authorize a comprehensive road assessment consultant program at an estimated cost of $40,000 from Chapter 90 funds to evaluate all town roads and prioritize maintenance needs.
The board also agreed to solicit a Request for Proposals from solar developers under Massachusetts procurement law Chapter 30B, excluding battery storage pending specification clarification.
